NHIR Frequently Asked Questions
Who is NHIR?

The NHIR is a nationwide referral service that provides you with qualified & trusted home contractors from your local area. We know how difficult it is to find good contractors so we do the research for you. Contractor participants go through a screening process.

What does NHIR do?

We help busy homeowners like you and match your needs to leading national and local providers, who guarantee their work. They will deliver outstanding service for your peace of mind. We record your information and home improvement needs then match you with a home improvement contractor in your area. The contractor will then contact you to set up a FREE IN-HOME NO OBLIGATION consultation.

How many referrals will I get / How many contractors will contact me?

We have pre-screened the contractors in your area and will suggest the contractor best suited for your needs.

Will it cost me more to hire a NHIR contractor?

Absolutely not. Using NHIR eliminates some of the stress from your home improvement project and does not cost you a penny. Contractors will not charge you more because you used NHIR.

How do you select the contractors for my project?

NHIR is a national referral service of local contractors covering most home improvement and remodeling skills.

  • We match you with contractors who specialize in your specific service need.
  • Contractors who are geographically close to you.
  • Contractors who are available to do your project in a reasonable time frame.
Why do I have to tell you anything about me?

We ask your name, address, phone number and e-mail so we can introduce you to the contractor that best suits your needs. We will notify you with the name and contact information of the contractor we have selected for your requested service. We may also send an e-mail survey to you so you can rate your experience with our service.

Do contractors pay to be a part of NHIR?

No, we do not accept a registration fee just to be part of our referral service. Contractors are screened and meet our guidelines. We only charge the contractors a small fee for connecting you to them. For the contractor this is frequently less expensive than other forms of advertising.

How does a contractor qualify to be in the NHIR network?

We accept contractors into our service only after they complete detailed applications and pass our screening process.

What is the NHIR screening process?

We verify that contractors have licenses in good standing; we monitor feedback from consumers; and we remove contractors from our network if they fail to maintain our high standards. All Contractors Must Meet the Following Criteria:

  • Must be in business for at least 2 years
  • Must be licensed & insured (where required)
  • Member of Better Business Bureau in good standing (except for Public Companies)
What does it mean for the contractor’s license to be “in good standing”?

It means that the contractor’s license is valid and that the contractor is not currently subject to disciplinary action and has all the necessary insurance.

Do I have to make an appointment?

We understand that you may be a little apprehensive about making an appointment, so we have the contractor contact you directly. We will send you an email with the contractor’s information so that you may contact them directly if you like. You should identify yourself as having contacted them through the NHIR so that they can make sure you get the best deal possible.

How long is the FREE Consultation

It can take anywhere from a half hour to 2 hours depending on the services your looking for. The contractor will tell you about the company and the products for your project.
